John Sanderson is a professor in the Entomology Department in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. He teaches Insect Biology (ENT 212), which is a rigorous introduction to the study of insects. His research and extension efforts are aimed at providing sustainable methods of managing arthropod pests of greenhouse crops. John grew up in the San Diego area and received a B.S. in Zoology at San Diego State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Entomology at the University of California, Riverside. He arrived at Cornell in 1987. He is married to his high school girlfriend, Marie, a clarinetist, and has two married sons and two amazing grandchildren. He's been active at his church, Bethel Grove Bible Church, since arriving in Ithaca, and formerly served as faculty advisor for Cornell Campus Crusade for Christ. Hobbies include a love for a wide variety of musical genres, jazz drumming, hiking around Tompkins County, and, of course, insects.
