The second talk is the centerpiece of my three talks. There I want to ask how the Christian academic can think with a Christian mind and speak with a Christian voice in the contemporary university. Along the way, I will contrast this understanding of the role of the Christian in the contemporary university with other understandings. An answer to the question posed obviously presupposes some understanding of what the contemporary university is like. This will be the topic of my first talk; I will approach the topic by discussing how the university has changed over the past 50 years, raising the question whether it is more hospitable to a Christian mind and voice today than it was in the past. In my third lecture, I will become more practical. I will offer some examples of what I mean by thinking with a Christian mind. And I will discuss how such thinking can be nourished: by attention to Scripture, by remembering the Christian tradition, by establishing a community, and so forth.
Please note: Lunch will NOT be provided. There are several fine restaurants in nearby Collegetown, or you may bring your own lunch.
